Pierre Damas Bel, 2026

The US Supreme Court decided to end TPS for Haitians back in July. Close to 300 thousand Haitian immigrants who have established lives in this country are now being targeted. The US Congress created TPS for those who had either experienced extraordinary environmental disasters, suffered conflict, or more that you can easily learn from community groups or on social media. In Springfield, Ohio, a Haitian student named Pierre Damas Bel. He was given a shackle (ankle monitor) so he could be “tracked” by ICE. Shame, guilt, and fear are the weight they gave this YOUNG PERSON. He was only 20 years old.

Allegedly, he was bullied by his classmates at Wright State University because of the monitor device. He drove out onto the highway. Got out of his car and walked into oncoming traffic. My heart goes out to anyone suffering under the weight of these harmful policies and the systemic racism against Black and brown bodies.

Representative Betty Thompson, 4 The Ville - 2021

An organization, 4 The Ville, reached out with a vision to honor these incredible women and their leadership. A creative way to honor new ancestors was to develop a collage of memories, blending colors, textures, and images that spark emotion through a digital lens. This project was created around the time 4 The Ville was hosting a community fundraiser for people and programs in the community, where the images served as a visual display for everyone to view.
