about
Birth name Montrinaa Hill, but has always gone by Monty Hill and started spelling Monti when she moved to the Midwest shortly after college. (b. San Antonio, Texas) A self-taught photographer specializing in realism and intentionality during moments of action, liberation, and stillness. In constant search for rebirth in creativity while using her skills as an organizer to build community connections. With a deep-rooted passion for capturing the essence of Black culture that transcends surface-level discussions, bringing in intersections of systems and liberation through the lens.
As an only child, she has a deep understanding of the moments of creativity that helped shape clarity, liberation, and even sadness through her lens, from family, friends, and community members who helped bridge moments of ingenious release. Hill’s photography is unrushed and unpolished, yet intentional with each take. At times there is no waiting when taking a photo; moments are captured in the heat of the moment, such as actions or community gatherings. There are junctures where Hill worked with people who are not used to being in front of the lens. To see themselves the way society sees them. Taking time to have authentic conversations and building inclusive moments of liberation. Unedited moments of lighting, exposure, and the most raw storytelling moments that not only add to visual equity but also incorporate sustainability through visually achievable moments.
